Summary –

  • A fast appreciating and rare classic car, the Caterham HPC. Having been owned by the previous, previous owner for the past 10 years, very low mileage at just under 15,000 miles in its 24 years!
  • Sadly these don’t tend to come up for sale all that often anymore, especially not in this sort of condition. First introduced in 1986 with the “HPC” name derived from the fact that owners were required to take part in a High Performance driving Course before taking delivery of their new car, such was the performance available.
  • By 1990 the decision was made to update the HPC and make use of the powerful and torquey Vauxhall 2.0-litre twin cam 16v engine. Producing 165bhp, and a lot of torque, the HPC “VX” was an instant hit thanks to the reliability, drivability and most importantly huge performance on offer!
  • At launch, the car was independently proved to be capable of the 0-60mph sprint in 4.9 seconds. It was this staggering performance that meant that customers were still sent on a high performance driving course before taking delivery, but this time is was optional (but advisable!) for anyone over the age of 25.
